THE TREASURE OF SAN DIABLO

by Mack White

Chapter Five

It is a slow, horrible death.

"That ol' Injun was right," he gasps.
"The treasure was unlucky.
If I hadn't a'took it I wouldn't be here now.
Oh, I wish I never took it."

"You wish you never took it?"
says the old man.

"That's right. I wish I never--"

He finds himself back in the adobe shack.
The old man is peering intently at him.

"All has been a dream," says the old man.
"All those years were just a few minutes.
But it will all become real if you ever wish
for the treasure again!"

The cowboy does not take long to consider the matter.
He bolts out of the shack, and is never seen
in those parts again.
