This is What a Police State Looks Like

You are in a bar. You are drinking alcohol. You have a designated driver. Or you intend to take a cab. Or the bar is in a hotel where you are a registered guest and your room is only a short walk and an elevator ride away. At any rate, whatever your circumstances, you have no intention of driving drunk.

And yet, in the state of Texas, you could be randomly selected by a cop to take a field sobriety test, and if you fail, will be arrested. Why? Because you might drive drunk.

That was the rationale given by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) for a recent "proactive" undercover operation in which 36 patrons of Dallas-area bars (including some that were in hotels) were arrested for public intoxication. (LINK)

Public intoxication laws were not created for this purpose. It is socially acceptable to go to a public place such as a bar--especially a bar--and drink until you are, to one degree or another, intoxicated. That is what bars are for. As long as you are not falling down or causing trouble, or doing something that might represent a danger to yourself or others, there is no reason to arrest you, nor is there reason to subject you to a sobriety test in the first place.

This "proactive" measure taken by the TABC, as well as by a growing number of other law enforcement agencies across the country, is a perversion of public intoxication laws. It is harassment, it is official oppression, it is false arrest, and it is an illegal police intrusion on private behavior heretofore considered harmless and non-criminal. And that is not all. Arresting people because they might commit a crime in the future sets a frightening precedent; it amounts to "pre-crime."

Furthermore, arrests of this kind do nothing to stop drunk driving. A better tactic for the TABC would be to use its considerable resources to catch drunks who are actually behind the wheel of a car, rather than send undercover agents out for a night of bar-hopping to arrest people who are not driving and have no intention of driving. This is a dubious tactic, to say the least.

Here is another suggestion for the TABC and other agencies using this "proactive" measure: When you pervert the law in this manner, you raise all sorts of suspicions in people's minds about your true motives. One of them is the suspicion that you might be running a shakedown operation. People start imagining dialogue such as the following:

"Too bad about what happened here last night. It's not so good for business when we come in here and start busting your regulars, is it? Why, if that was to continue on a regular basis, it might give your place a bad name. You wouldn't want that, would you? No, I didn't think you would. Your customers might start going somewhere else, know what I mean? Yeah, that could be a big problem for you. 'Course, I could make the problem go away. A little moolah might do the trick, know what I mean? ..."

This is what a police state looks like. As police powers are allowed to expand unchecked, it not only increases the power of the government, it increases the power of individual cops; it rewards them for their efforts on the government's behalf by providing them with more and more ways to make extra moolah on the side. It breeds corruption on every level, and puts every citizen at the mercy of thugs in uniform ...

TONIGHT: CNN to End News Blackout on Sheen 9/11 Story

Press Release from Progressive Press

It will be a first for America's mainstream media tonight. CNN Headline News will air an interview with "9/11 Truth" author Webster Griffin Tarpley on Showbiz Tonight (7-8 p.m., replay at 11, all times Eastern).

Tarpley will comment on Sheen's remarks and size up the various schools of "9/11 conspiracy" thought on CNN. The new edition of Tarpley's "Synthetic Terror" points out the different viewpoints on 9/11, which range from the Bush administration version, to the "bungling negligence" theory partly espoused by the 9/11 commission, to the "Let It Happen on Purpose" or LIHOP theory, a compromise popular among liberal intellectuals like Michael Moore.

CNN's move comes in the wake of a far-reaching article in New York Magazine on the 9/11 controversy this week at LINK , which cited Tarpley, plus hard-hitting comments by actor Charlie Sheen on the Alex Jones talk radio show, infowars.com, on Monday, see LINK

Tarpley's book, "9/11 Synthetic Terror: Made in USA" presents the radical view of no hijackers, controlled demolition of the WTC, and an inside job by a "rogue network esconced in key nodes of the establishment." His Tarpley's publisher, John Leonard of Progressive Press, is adamant that "LIHOP" is useless because it leaves intact the story of Arab attackers, and thereby the pretext for war on the Middle East. He and Tarpley subscribe to the "MIHOP" or "Made it Happen on Purpose - from A to Z" explanation.

The precedent is Operation Northwoods, a 1962 plan by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to fabricate an atrocity and blame it on Cuba. The plot was nixed by Kennedy. Northwoods documents were released under the FOIA act before Bush took power.

According to Alex Jones' website, "Actor Charlie Sheen has joined a growing army of other highly credible public figures in questioning the official story of 9/11 and calling for a new independent investigation of the attack and the circumstances surrounding it.

"Over the past two years, scores of highly regarded individuals have gone public to express their serious doubts about 9/11. These include former presidential advisor and CIA analyst Ray McGovern, the father of Reaganomics and former Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury Paul Craig Roberts, BYU physics Professor Steven Jones, former German defense minister Andreas von Buelow, former MI5 officer David Shayler, former Blair cabinet member Michael Meacher, former Chief Economist for the Department of Labor during President George W. Bush's first term Morgan Reynolds and many more....

"The star of current hit comedy show Two and a Half Men and dozens of movies including Platoon and Young Guns, Sheen.... agreed that the biggest conspiracy theory was put out by the government itself... It seems to me like 19 amateurs with box cutters taking over four commercial airliners and hitting 75% of their targets, that feels like a conspiracy theory. It raises a lot of questions."

Tarpley's message to people of good will: "If you want to stop the war in iraq, and prevent the attack on Iran, the only way to do it is to put 9/11 truth on the front page everywhere. Make the official version explode, or the bombs will."

TV Violence

Violent cartoons can increase children's anxiety, desensitize them or lead them to believe that violence is more prevalent -- and acceptable -- in real life than it really is, said Dr. Michael Rich, director of the Center of Media and Children's Health at Harvard University's medical school ... Children under age 8 are cognitively unable to distinguish between real and fantasy violence, he said. Rich studied reactions to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and found children much less upset than their parents, perhaps because they couldn't distinguish it from what they saw on TV regularly, said Rich, who endorsed the study ...

UPDATE: News Blackout on Sheen 9/11 Story

As of 3 pm today, a Google news search of Charlie Sheen pulls up numerous trivial stories about the actor, but only one about his highly newsworthy comments on the Alex Jones Show yesterday--and that article originated on Alex's PrisonPlanet.com site. It appears, then, that Alex predicted correctly when he said there would be a news blackout on this story. If you know anyone who still doubts the mainstream media is controlled, show them these search results. It is like catching someone with their pants down spanking the ol' monkey. Funny and appalling at the same time. I'm almost embarrassed for the mainstream media. Put your pants back on, mainstream media, and get outta' here. No one wants to see your pitiful little pecker.
