The Homeland is Safe from Little Girls

Here's an airport security horror story that did not make it into the news. It happened to an acquaintance of my wife's--a woman who shall remain anonymous.

After a vacation in Hawaii, the woman and her eight-year-old daughter were in the airport approaching the security checkpoint when her daughter said, "Mommy, is this the machine that checks for bombs?"

Well, that word "bombs" did it. No matter that it was spoken by a child in all innocence.

The security screeners pulled the woman, her daughter, and a female friend of the woman, out of the line, and in full view of other passengers, touched all three in a manner that could, at best, be described as inappropriate.

And that's not all.

Next, they were taken into a private area and strip searched, the eight-year-old girl included.

Naturally, the woman was unhappy during this ordeal, and her expression reflected it. Noticing this, one of the female security screeners said, in an intimidating manner: "What's wrong with you? Smile."

They were afraid to complain, therefore they endured this treatment in silence. And later, instead of filing an official complaint, they decided to let the matter go.

Therefore, it was not reported in the news, and has only been reported here.

I could launch into a rant about this episode, but I would be preaching to the converted. You already know how wrong it is, and why, and all the rest.

Therefore, I will let the story speak for itself, adding only this: How many more such incidents happen every day that are never reported? Could it be that the ones we read about are just the tip of the iceberg?

DREAM: And what would it be like, I wonder, if the black panther escaped from the zoo down the street; how would it feel to look up and suddenly see the snarling, bright-eyed beast coming towards you on a sunny day in suburban USA ... This thought occurs to me while I am sitting on the rooftop of an old building ... I go to sleep on that rooftop, and sleep comfortably, but now and then am awakened by someone continually moving my cot halfway off the edge of the rooftop. It is my father, moving my cot to wake me up. I get up and discover I am on the back porch of an old house where I used to live, a vast house with many unused rooms, that has now been refurbished. My father takes me on a tour. I am excited by what I see ... We walk into the living room; it is as large as an auditorium; the wooden floors are polished smooth; I slide on stocking feet, delighted ... Beyond the living room is a mall containing restaurants and casinos and theatres ... We come to a strange little room at the far end of this mall. My father hands me a pamphlet printed on slick paper. It is a short story he has written, called "The Day My Brother Died." It is told in pictures; it is the story of Cain and Abel; it tells how Cain set a forest fire, and how the fire consumed Abel. The last image is Abel in fringe leather, moccasins, and Indian headdress sitting in full lotus position while he burns, perfectly still like the self-immolating Buddhist monks in Vietnam; his image is reflected in the lake. Ages pass; his spirit continues to haunt the lake ... I tell my father the story is very good, that it would make a good prequel to "The Shining." He morphs into Jack Nicholson and sells me the story for fifty cents; I can have as many copies as I want; I take six; he gives me a fork. I walk away, doing a Jack Nicholson impression, saying aloud, "You can't handle the truth ..."


ADDENDUM

There are rooms undiscovered in a house long forgotten ... wonderful rooms where the floors are polished smooth, rooms of soaring grandeur, rooms of brilliant light ...

This my Father showed me ...

But before we can take possession of this house, we must first visit the small room at the far end, and there unlock the door ... this is the darkest chamber ...

Here live the ghosts of cruelties past, both those endured and the worst ones of all: those that we have committed ... for we are all the same; we are all Abel, and we are all Cain ...

This is the Truth I feared to face, this is the Truth my Father told me ...

Joint Chiefs Launch Major Offensive against Political Cartoon



In an unprecedented show of force against criticism of the war, all six Joint Chiefs of Staff have signed and sent a letter bitterly denouncing the above Washington Post cartoon by Tom Toles. The letter reads in part: "... [W]e believe you and Mr. Toles have done a disservice to your readers and your paper's reputation by using such a callous depiction of those who have volunteered to defend this nation and as a result, have suffered traumatic and life-altering wounds ... "

(As opposed to the callous use of American citizens for cannon fodder, to say nothing of the callous slaughter of countless Iraqi civilians, in a morally rotten, rich man's war.) ... LINK

I Feel So Safe

I knew that terrorists were bad people, but I never dreamed al Qaeda would stoop so low as to sell unauthorized NFL merchandise.

This is evil beyond comprehension; it makes September 11 seem like a harmless fireworks show. I am beside myself with TERROR just thinking about this dire threat to our Homeland.

Therefore, it comes as a great relief to know that the Department of Homeland Security plans to crack down on the sale of phony Super Bowl t-shirts and other gewgaws this weekend in Detroit.

Capitol Police Chief Issues "Apology" to Cindy Sheehan and Some Pro-War Congressman's Wife

Cindy was arrested and roughed up by Capitol police for wearing an anti-war t-shirt. Later, some congressman's wife was gently reprimanded for wearing a pro-war t-shirt; she voluntarily left the Capitol. The latter incident with the congressman's wife was obviously staged (if it happened at all) to make it seem that the Capitol Police are not the fascist thugs they in fact are.

The Capitol Police Chief has issued an "apology" to both women. This "apology" is worthless, and will remain so until another apology is issued exclusively to Cindy and the issue of police brutality is addressed by firing the arresting officer, Mike Weight ... LINK
