The Boy King Comes to the Lost City, Dressed in Blue

Gulf winds carry smoke and the smell of death from the lost city ... Blackwater goons guard the wreckage and the ruin: the makeshift crematorium that the city has become: no cameras allowed, and no prying eyes to witness the disposal of the dead: the forgotten ones, the unknown victims, the uncounted bodies, the useless eaters, all out of sight now, and also out of mind: the lost people of the lost city ...

And elsewhere, in the United States of Emergency, the photo-op hugs in convention centers are over ... the dignitaries and celebrities have all gone home ... and the survivors of the lost city, those who did not find jobs at the job fairs, must now be taken away ... where? ... anywhere but this convention center ... this is, after all, a convention center; revenue is being lost; got to make room for the next convention ... therefore, take these people away ... take them to smaller camps, take them to abandoned high schools, windowless buildings in America's Heartland, barbed-wire church camps in wilderness hills, hidden away from prying eyes ... for these are the forgotten people, out of sight and out of mind, and their city is lost and dark with death ...

Dark, that is, but for a blue light ... yes, tonight, the Boy King has decided to walk among us, and he lights up the darkness of the lost city with a blue shirt matching the blue cathedral in the background as he tells us the lesson we have learned: that Government always loves us, and only desires to protect us, and would protect us more, if only it had more power ... therefore, give it more power, that more cities will not be lost ... and do not be afraid to do so ... for Government wants power only to protect us ... Government loves us, Government adores us, Government's only purpose is to serve and protect ...

And the Boy King also said: Government will rebuild the Lost City ... yes, Government will rebuild ... Government, out of the kindness of its heart, will give you a brand-new city, and a better one, a brighter bauble to replace the one that was lost ...

Yes, upon this fertile ground of snakes and sewage, upon this toxic mess, upon this wreckage of homes lost and the bones of the forgotten dead, yes ... upon these ruins (yet not all ruins, for Nature miraculously spared the quaint, historic, tourist zone!) shall arise something better, yes: a glittering, neon, jazz-themed city with roller-coaster casinos and hurricanes to drink, a place where the neo-con yuppies of tomorrow can party ... all built on the wreckage of the lost ... all new, and bright, and better ...

And we believe it will be better, of course, because the Boy King, dressed in glorious blue, has told us it will be so ...

Polls show that a majority of Americans have lost confidence in the Iraq war and believe Bush did a poor job responding to flooded New Orleans. Many Americans hope that these two massive failures have put Bush back into the box of responsible behavior from which Sept. 11 allowed him to escape. However, there is no indication that the Bush administration sees any constraints placed on its behavior by these failures.

The identical cronyism and corrupt government contract practices, by which taxpayers' money is used to reward political contributors, so evident in Iraq is now evident in New Orleans ...

Speculators Rush to New Orleans; Blacks Fear Gentrification

Bush used the starving people of New Orleans as hostages to blackmail the Governor into turning the city over to his troops so he could:

1. hand out all the reconstruction contracts to friends of the Bush Crime Family such as Halliburton; and

2. use his soldiers to control the exit and return of the inhabitants of New Orleans, to ensure that 'undesirables' - blacks and poor white race traitors who like living in a predominantly black culture - never come back so he can rebuild the city as an amusement park for white tourists ...

... [W]e we must not allow them to get away with their evil plans. It would be a social, architectural, and cultural crime to let Bush destroy New Orleans. New Orleans needs to be brought back to life in its existing buildings, most of which can be saved, and with its former inhabitants. Did the Italian government contemplate rebuilding Florence someplace else after the 1966 floods? Does anyone ever seriously contemplate moving Venice, a very similar ecological disaster of a city that is also slowly sinking? The idea is laughable. Let's face it. There are only five culturally important places in the whole country: New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco and . . . New Orleans. You just can't give New Orleans up so that some rich Republicans can make money. If the American political system were working properly, Bush's attempt to use the lives of the starving and dying citizens of New Orleans as hostages should lead to his impeachment and removal from office. This wasn't just total incompetence and negligence; it was a criminal act.

Some Semblance of Normalcy

The story is not over, not by a long shot (see links posted below), but New Orleans-related news reports are beginning to slow down. Therefore, as evidenced by the picture above, this website now returns to some semblance of normalcy.

However, as I say, the story is far from over. I will continue posting the latest news and commentary on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, in addition to other matters of vital importance that have not received the proper attention over the past couple of weeks ...

An Enjoyable Visit

Last Sunday I received two guests: Alex Ansary of Portland, Oregon, and Austin's own Freeman. Alex hosts a cable access show in Portland called Outside the Box. He is in Austin this week taping interviews with various local activist/researchers, including Alex Jones, Jack Blood, the aforementioned Freeman, SMiles Lewis, myself, and many others for a documentary to air on his show in the near future. Freeman also hosts a show, The Freeman Perspective, on Austin Cable Access. Both guys were a lot of fun to talk to. And their shows are great. If you're fortunate enough to live in either Portland or Austin, check 'em out and support what they're doing.

Impeach, Indict, Imprison

Finally, the words "criminal charges" are being used in the same breath with "Hurricane Katrina"; however, I am disappointed that, so far, the only persons arrested have been the owners of a nursing home in which 34 residents were drowned.

It may, or may not, have been the case that the owners exercised poor judgment when they decided it would be better to risk the fury of the storm (and hope the government would help) than risk evacuating extremely frail patients, many of whom were on feeding tubes; I know nothing of that.

But this I do know, beyond a shadow of a doubt: Those nursing home owners did not turn away food, water, and medical supplies from an entire city badly in need. Nor did they cut off emergency communication lines and otherwise deliberately interfere with the rescue of thousands of American citizens. No. Only the government did that.

Therefore, if we must assign criminal blame for the horror that occurred in New Orleans, then let it begin on a governmental level, and let it end there as well.

To be specific: The president himself has accepted full responsibility for the horror that occurred in New Orleans. By saying so, he has invited us to put him, and his associates, on trial for mass murder ...

More Media Lies

"By Thursday," the Chicago Tribune's Howard Witt reported, "local TV and radio stations in Baton Rouge...were breezily passing along reports of cars being hijacked at gunpoint by New Orleans refugees, riots breaking out in the shelters set up in Baton Rouge to house the displaced, and guns and knives being seized."

The only problem-none of the reports were true. "The police, for example, confiscated a single knife from a refugee in one Baton Rouge shelter," Witt reported. "There were no riots in Baton Rouge. There were no armed hordes." Yet the panic was enough for Baton Rouge Mayor-President Kip Holden to impose a curfew on the city's largest shelter, and to warn darkly about "New Orleans thugs ..."

Disappearing the Dead in NOLA?

There are some very troubling developments regarding the collecting of bodies in NOLA. The company hired to do the collection is Kenyon International. Kenyon International is owned by SCI, a major Bush contributor. SCI was involved in a scandal called "Funeralgate" wherein thousands of bodies were improperly and fraudulently disposed of in mass graves in violation of numerous State and Federal laws on numerous occasions. Rather than prosecute the company, the then Governor George W Bush and his campaign manager and future FEMA director Joe Allbaugh seemingly helped the company engage in a cover-up. Both Bush and Allbaugh were named as defendants in a lawsuit regarding the issue.

The fact FEMA and the Bush Administration seem to be intent on blocking media coverage of the collection of bodies, and unsubstantiated rumours of "mishandling" of bodies in NOLA already circulating should lead to great concern among the public. Is the Government planning to cover up the number of dead in NOLA as they covered up the Abu Ghraib scandal? ...
