Wikipedia on the Mississippi flood of 1927: As the flood approached New Orleans, Louisiana 30 tons of dynamite were set off on the levee at Caernarvon, Louisiana and sent 250,000 ft of water pouring through. This prevented New Orleans from experiencing serious damage but destroyed much of the marsh below the city. As it turned out, the destruction of the Caernarvon levee was unnecessary; several major levee breaks well upstream of New Orleans, including one the day after the dynamiting, made it impossible for flood waters to seriously threaten the city.

By August 1927 the flood subsided. During the disaster 700,000 people were displaced, including 330,000 African-Americans who were moved to 154 relief camps. Over 13,000 refugees near Greenville, Mississippi were gathered from area farms and evacuated to the crest of an unbroken levee, and stranded there for days without food or clean water, while boats arrived to evacuate white women and children. Many African-Americans were detained and forced to labor at gunpoint during flood relief efforts.

Several reports on the poor situation in the refugee camps, including one by the Colored Advisory Commission by Robert Russa Moton, were kept out of the media at the request of Herbert Hoover ...

In the Houston Astrodome last Saturday, I met a man named Robert. He invited me to take a seat beside him on a cot pushed against the wall - his home for the previous three days and the foreseeable future. Robert had lived in New Orleans for all of his 55 years, and was in the St. Bernard projects when Katrina washed it all away. "After the storm," he told me almost as soon as I sat down, "they blew the levees up so they could flood New Orleans."

I asked him who "they" were.

"The money people," he answered. "The big money."

"Why?" I asked.

Robert shook his head at my naivet_. "They had to get the poor people out so they could get the space." He gestured to the thousands of people in the dome around us, almost all of them African-American, crammed onto cots a few inches apart. "Now they got their space.

"We survived the storm," Robert went on. "We survived the wind and the rain. After the storm passed, the water started rising, and all you heard was 'Boom!' " The explosions, he said, were the levees blowing. "Ask any of these people. The hurricane wasn't that bad, but the opportunity came up."

It was a real estate grab, Robert explained - gentrification with a genocidal edge ...

The orders are clear: "Empty the city, Cut off communications between the citizenry, and Protect private property." The result is a massive ethnic cleansing operation that will displace tens of thousands of poor, black residents and pave the way for Halliburton and other major Bush contributors to rebuild the city at taxpayer expense. This is the clearest illustration of class-based warfare we have seen to date, but we expect more will follow.

The Bush administration has established its first domestic beachhead in the "Big Easy", where 50,000 fully-armed troops now patrol the streets giving us our first unobstructed-view of New World Order ...

Cameras Confiscated at Checkpoints Leading into New Orleans

The group of 20 went down with three 18 wheelers and 2 motor homes. They met with another group here and all agreed to go together. Each of the groups had permission to go and hand out goods to the people.

As they got close they hit a check point he said. The national guard went through the whole truck and took all camera and video recorders. They claim they will ship them back to Ma. For some reason the Gov does not want them shooting films.

A mile down the road another check point. This time they were told to go home. They said no one is allowed in not even to hand out water. Mike also met with a few doctors that said they wont let them in either ...

In a harrowing, deeply upsetting interview with what appears to be a priest, famed musician and New Orleans native Charmaine Neville describes being stranded, rescuing others, contending with alligators, fending off rapists, and "being treated like animals" by the federal authorities whose jobs were ostensibly to rescue American citizens. Ms. Neville heroically commandeered a school bus, and without any experience driving a bus, drove herself and several others, including disabled and elderly persons, out of the city.

Transcript (excerpt): "... I found some police officers. I told them that a lot of us women had been raped down there by guys, not from the neighborhood where we were, they were helping us to save people. But other men, and they came and they started raping women and they started killing, and I don't know who these people were. I'm not gonna tell you I know, because I don't. But what I want people to understand is that, if we had not been left down there like the animals that they were treating us like, all of those things wouldn't have happened. People are trying to say that we stayed ... because we wanted to be rioting and we wanted to do this. We didn't have the resources to get out. We had no way to leave. When they gave the evacuation order, if we could have left, we would have left. There are still thousands and thousands of people trapped in the homes in the downtown area ... in the ninth ward, and not just in my neighborhood, but in other neighborhoods in the ninth ward there are a lot of people who are still trapped down there, old people, young people, babies ... nobody's helping them ... And I want people to realize that we did not stay in that city so that we could steal and loot and commit crimes. A lot of those young men lost their minds because the helicopters would fly over us and they wouldn't stop. We'd do SOS on the flashlights. We'd do everything. And it came to a point, it really came to a point where these young men were so frustrated they did start shooting. They weren't trying to hit the helicopters. They figured maybe they weren't seeing, maybe if they'd hear this gunfire they would stop then, but that didn't help us ..."
