A READER WRITES: Hello Mack, again, great stuff each day on your site. I really like last night's posting (1/21/04). The paragraph referring to these losers as the herd was especially profound, and if you don't mind I believe I would like to borrow that one in conversation/arguments etc... (giving you full credit of course). On a lighter note...your dream sequences are getting more and more intense. I read them and I think that the only thing missing now is Rod Serling standing nearby with a smoldering cigarette.  Oh, and please do me a favor. The next time you find yourself surrounded by  young, wet, bare breasted Republican Texas hotties please invite me into your dream? I'd sure appreciate it.

I'm holding a wake tonight for Bob Keeshan. In addition to portraying Captain Kangaroo, Bob Keeshan was the first (and most memorable) Clarabelle on my favorite tv show in the 50s, Howdy Doody. The Captain died today at age 76. Read about him HERE.

Steven Brill had a summit meeting of TV anchormen and their bosses over dinner at his Fifth Avenue apartment on Tuesday night with Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge to discuss how they'll cover the next terrorist attack. Brill, whose book "After" detailed the response to 9/11, spearheads the America Prepared Campaign to educate the public. Joining Brill, his wife Cynthia and two of their three kids for dinner were Fox News Channel boss Roger Ailes, ABC News prexie David Westin, CBS News chief Andrew Heyward, CNN anchor Aaron Brown, plus Peter Jennings and Tom Brokaw.

DEBKAfile reports this morning: US Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts voices "some concern" that Iraqi WMD shipments went to Syria. He did not elaborate. Pre-dawn bus ride … somnolent faces of passengers faintly lit … joining the river of headlights on North Lamar, passing auto repair shops, discount furniture stores, all dark, 7-Eleven lit up and busy with people buying coffee and gas, Dan's Hamburgers open for breakfast, lights on in the funeral home, inside they're polishing caskets, getting the dead ready for the day, Mexican construction workers already on the site, people lining up for Ken's Donuts …

I'm trying to remember my dreams, but can only pull up fragments, like the ragged remnants of a circus blown away by a storm: tattered pennants and pieces of tent, trapeze wire and clown shoe, scattered bits vaguely reminiscent of the show:
