The Big Blog Change

Okay, I said it wouldn't take long, and it didn't. I moved my blog to the link above. It's now open for business.

Meanwhile, here on the main site, the technical problems appear to have been fixed, according to my friend SMiles Lewis, proprietor of the Elfis Network. So this site will no longer be periodically disappearing, etc.

The archives of the old blog (this one, the one you're reading), will be kept here on the main site, along with the mp3s of my weekly show, articles, comics, and other features. The only change here will be a complete re-design of this opening page.

Well, this is my last entry on the old blog. You may now join me for the first entry on the NEW BLOG ...

Never Mind

My search for a better blogging system continues. Yesterday I thought Radio Userland would work for me. Today I discover it won't. Therefore, I've removed the link to my trial blog at Userland and am now exploring other options. I should reach a decision soon ...

Big Bus Trip of '68, Part 7

"Bob and Bill were their names. They were brothers. They didn't have a father--he ran off right after they were born. All they had was their mother, a good woman who worked hard at two jobs, trying to make ends meet, trying to give the boys a good home and raise them right--trying her best, and in return never getting anything but grief.

"The boys were always in trouble. They ran wild in the neighborhood. She couldn't control them. They tormented the younger kids, they vandalized the neighbors' homes--one time they painted a curse word, an ugly word, an awful word that I won't even repeat, painted it right on the garage door of a man who had yelled at them to get out of his yard. And they were always in trouble in school, always being sent to the principal's office for fighting, or smoking, or cursing their teachers. It was always something with them. And as they got older, they got worse. Much worse.

"Their mother bought them a car. They begged her for it, they badgered her for it. She told them she couldn't afford it. She told them that if they wanted a car they were going to have to go out and get a job and earn the money themselves. But they didn't want to work. They were spoilt and lazy and rotten. They cursed their mother and wore her down until finally she agreed to buy them a car. The poor woman had to take on a third job just to earn the money to pay for it. But she did it. She bought them a car--to her everlasting regret, she bought them a car.

"Now that they had a car, they really went wild. They could terrorize the whole town now with their drag racing and drunk driving and criminal mischief. Everyone told their mother, 'Those boys are gonna' end up in jail.' And, sure enough, it wasn't long before she got a call from the police. Bob and Bill had been arrested.

"She went to get them out of jail, and the police chief pulled her aside and said, 'Ma'am, you have got to do something about those boys of yours. At the rate they're going, they're going to get killed or kill someone else, and I sure don't want to see that.' Well, she told the officer she'd been trying for years to control them, but couldn't. Without their father at home to help her, it was just impossible. The police chief asked her if she ever took the boys to church. She said she tried to take them to church once, but they cut up and caused so much trouble during the service that she was too embarrassed to go back. And, anyway, she said, Sunday morning was the only time of the week she didn't have to work, and by that time she was so tired out that it was all she could do to get up and cook breakfast for Bob and Bill, let alone try to get dressed up and go to church. Well, the police chief heard that and he said, 'Ma'am, there's your problem. Not only do those boys not have a father to keep them in line, they don't even have the Heavenly Father.' And he gave her my name and phone number.

"He gave her my name and number, because he had seen the work I'd done with other young people over the years, how I've been able to talk to them and bring them to the Lord. Many a troubled teen has walked into this tabernacle a juvenile delinquent full of the Devil, and walked out full of the Lord and never got in trouble again. Yes, many a miracle has been performed here. Young men and young women that nobody thought could be salvaged have been given new life through Jesus Christ.

"But, in all my years as a pastor, I never encountered any like Bob and Bill ..."

"Social Network Analysis"

Last week it was reported that the NSA is creating a database of every phone call ever made inside the US. The data, we are told, is for the purpose of "social network analysis"--that is, it will supposedly be used "to study how terrorist networks contact each other and how they are tied together."

This, of course, is preposterous. For unlike former President George H. W. Bush, who met with Ossama bin Laden's brother Shafig on the morning of September 11, most of us do not belong to social networks that include terrorists; therefore, our phone calls can be of no use in analyzing those networks.

No, the only practical purpose for such an all-inclusive database is to enable the government to go back and study anyone's phone records, should anyone ever do anything to interest the government. Doesn't have to involve terrorism; it can be anything.

Therefore, it came as no surprise when it was reported yesterday that the government has been tracking the phone calls of two ABC News reporters to discover the confidential sources who informed them of such matters as the CIA's secret prisons in Eastern Europe. Today, this report was confirmed by the FBI.

Are you feeling safe yet?

Bush's Border Smoke And Mirrors

Paul Joseph Watson and Alex Jones: Bush's rhetoric ties the national guard program to his blanket amnesty policy, meaning that while guard troops may stop a few thousand illegals crossing the border, in the meantime at least 12 million will be legalized inside the United States as will anyone else that can get there ... Overworked local sheriffs said that if the federal government really wants to help, it could send money for more deputies, equipment and training ... "It's like sticking their finger in the dike and stopping the flow and not worrying about the high water already on this side of the dike," said Sheriff Lupe Trevino of Hidalgo County, Texas. "We need to stop them at the border, but we also need to deal with those who are already in the country - inside my country - that are creating havoc" ... Sheriff Rick Flores of Webb County, which includes Laredo and receives the spillover of violence from drug-wracked Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, said the president's plan will not stop illegal immigration ... "I guess he wants his ratings to come up by sending troops to the border, but that's not the panacea," said Flores, a Democrat. "All we've been asking for is to give us the resources that we need. We were expecting a dollar and now we're probably going to get a nickel ..." LINK
